paginations and contents of reserve readings in class. Please print out these readings to
facilitate class discussions. I
use e-reserves to make things cheaper, but we do need to be able to read these
texts in class and I prefer that you have print copies.
Be prepared to answer the following quiz question for April 5.

For April 9:
Potential quiz topic #1: Be prepared to write an essay that compares and contrasts Muslim and Christian accounts of the Crusades. Your thesis should take into account what you see as the most significant similarity or difference between the two. Be sure to use specific examples from the texts to support your thesis. You donÕt need to provide long quotes (we all have the same text), but a strong essay will pick a specific feature, figure, aspect of style etc. and use that to shape the thesis and argumentation.

Overall I am interested in the differences and similarities between these two accounts. How do they differ? What elements do they share? How can we decide what is ÒtruthfulÓ in historical accounts like these? What is the impact of such texts for the respective Ôcollective memoriesÓ of Christians and Muslims?
